Chapter 15 - The Unbroken Truth

One year after the gala, the Hawthorne mansion hosted another charity evening for the community hospital.

The grand foyer was once again filled with sparkling chandeliers, beautiful music, and the laughter of hundreds of guests.

The large monitor above the fireplace now displayed a live slideshow of community projects funded by the foundation, showing new medical clinics and youth scholarships.

Emily walked through the crowd in an elegant navy evening gown, greeting board members and doctors with grace and confidence.

When she paused near the mahogany staircase where she had once sat clutching a bruised cheek, Daniel walked up and offered his arm.

"Quite a difference from last year," Daniel noted quietly, his eyes warm.

"Last year taught me who I really am," Emily answered, smiling up at him as she linked her arm through his.

"It taught all of us what truly matters," Daniel said.

Across the hall, the grandfather clock struck eight with deep, resonant chimes.
