Chapter 13: The Race Against Time

The storm raged with relentless fury as the sleek black limousine tore through the rain-slicked gates of Vance Manor. Inside the spacious rear cabin, the atmosphere was thick with a tense, suffocating anxiety. Clara lay back against the plush leather seats, her face pale, her forehead slick with perspiration. Another sharp, agonizing contraction rippled through her abdomen, forcing a low gasp from her lips. She clutched her pregnant stomach, her fingers digging desperately into the soft fabric of her white lace dress.

Arthur sat beside her, his hand grasping hers with a firm, reassuring pressure. His dark blue suit jacket was gone, his white sleeves rolled up, revealing the strong, weathered forearms of a man who had built an empire but was now fighting for the only thing that truly mattered.

"Breathe, Clara," Arthur commanded softly, his voice a deep, steadying anchor in the dark. "Focus on me. We are only minutes away from the hospital. Dr. Evans is already there, preparing the neonatal team. You are safe."

"It’s too early, Arthur," Clara sobbed, a tear slipping down her cheek as another wave of pain washed over her. "He’s only seven months. He isn't ready. What if... what if I lose him too? I can't lose Julian’s baby."

Arthur leaned closer, his intense grey eyes locking onto hers with an unshakeable, fierce conviction. "You will not lose him. He is a Vance, Clara. He has his father’s gentle soul, but he has your incredible strength. He is a fighter, just like you. I will not let anything happen to either of you."

While maintaining his steady gaze on Clara, Arthur pulled out his phone and speed-dialed his attorney, Harold Sterling. The call connected instantly. "Harold, the transfer is underway. Clara has gone into premature labor. We are heading to Saint Jude’s."

"Understood, Arthur," Harold replied, his voice tense but professional. "The district attorney has already reviewed Marcus's signed confession. The arrest warrants for Eleanor and Marcus for corporate embezzlement and conspiracy to commit murder have been signed. The state police will move in at dawn."

"Do not delay," Arthur commanded coldly, his eyes narrowing as he stared out at the flashing streetlights of the city. "Keep the security guards at the manor until the police arrive. Eleanor must not realize her empire has collapsed until the handcuffs are locked on her wrists. I want her to feel every second of her downfall."

"It will be done exactly as you wish, Arthur. Focus on Clara. I will handle the rest," Harold promised before hanging up.

The limousine screeched to a halt beneath the bright, rain-washed canopy of the hospital's emergency entrance. Within seconds, the door was flung open, and a team of medical personnel rushed forward with a gurney. Arthur helped lift Clara, his strong arms transferring her gently to the rolling bed. He walked briskly alongside her as they wheeled her into the sterile, white hallways of the maternity ward.

Clara reached up, her hand trembling as she grabbed his sleeve. "Please, Arthur. Don't leave me."

"I am right here, Clara," Arthur said, his voice softening into a rare, tender warmth. "I will be with you every step of the way."
