The threat materialized within forty-eight hours. The foundation’s primary bank account—holding six million dollars designated for upcoming pediatric heart surgeries across three states—was temporary frozen under a court injunction secured by Vance.

Chaos erupted. Parents of sick children, waiting desperately for scheduled operations, flooded the foundation's phone lines with tears and panic.

Emma refused to crumble. She called a press conference on the front steps of the three-story white brick building. Standing under the brass letters bearing Sofia’s name, facing a sea of flashing cameras and shouting journalists, Emma looked directly into the lenses.

"Now, from behind iron bars, they are trying to take the lives of thirty-four more children. In a prison cell fifty miles away, Vanessa watched the television screen, her face contorted in rage, slamming her fists against the concrete wall.
