During a routine checkup in her eighth month, the doctor noted that Lucia's blood pressure was elevated and recommended light duty rest. When the hotel management expressed concern about her ability to complete her physical duties, Mateo stepped in quietly.
Instead of paying off the hotel or creating a scene, Mateo arranged with human resources to sponsor a temporary desk assignment for Lucia, allowing her to work in administrative support while retaining her full pay and medical benefits.
When Lucia discovered what he had done, she called him into the quiet hotel courtyard during her lunch break.
"Did you arrange the reassignment?" she asked.
"I spoke with HR, yes," Mateo admitted. "I didn't want you straining yourself on the housekeeping floors."
