In the early hours of the morning, their daughter was born—healthy, quiet, and possessing her mother's soft dark eyes.
The nurse placed the swaddled newborn in Lucia's arms. Lucia looked up at Mateo, who was standing beside the bed, tears silent in his eyes.
"Would you like to hold her?" Lucia asked softly.
Mateo sat on the edge of the chair, taking the baby delicately into his arms. He looked down at the tiny face, his chest rising and falling with deep emotion. "She's perfect," he whispered.
