Chapter 19 - The Fall of the Empire
"Stay back, Vance!" Cassidy shouted, standing firm in front of Hope’s crib.
Vance lunged forward. Cassidy dodged swiftly, swinging the heavy brass statue with all her strength. It struck Vance’s shoulder, knocking him off balance. He slashed blindly, grazing Cassidy’s arm, but she ignored the pain.
With fierce maternal instinct, Cassidy kicked Vance squarely in the chest, sending him crashing into a display shelf. The heavy wooden cabinet collapsed over him, trapping him under its weight.
Sirens blared in the distance. Headlights flashed through the tall windows as Marcus and four armed security officers burst into the room with guns drawn.
Vance was pinned to the floor, disarmed, and dragged out in heavy chains.
