Chloe dressed modestly in a simple navy gown, her former arrogance replaced by an edge of anxiety. As she walked through the doors of the Grand Ballroom, conversation hushed.
At the center of the room stood Lucas, polished and commanding, surrounded by city leaders and influential investors. Beside him stood a woman in an elegant silver dress—Sophia Vance, the brilliant heiress to Vance Enterprises.
Chloe felt a pang of intense jealousy and grief. She forced herself to walk over to Lucas, stepping into his circle.
"Lucas," Chloe said softly, her voice barely audible over the soft violin music. "Can we speak for a moment? Please."
Lucas excused himself from the group and stepped toward the balcony with her. "You have thirty seconds, Chloe."

"I ruined everything, I know," Chloe whispered, tears welling in her eyes. "I went to therapy. I realized how awful I was. I just... I want to apologize to your mother in person. Please, let me make it right."
Lucas looked at her, his face unreadable. "My mother doesn't need your apology, Chloe. She has moved on. The question is, have you actually changed, or are you just suffering the consequences of being caught?"
