Chapter 7 - THE DAY SHE WALKED FREE

Six months to the day after Mason whispered those seven words, Florence Bennett walked out of prison as a free woman. The sky was bright and blue, and the sun hit her face like a warm embrace she’d waited six years to feel.
We stood on the steps, Mason clinging to one hand and me to the other, as the judge’s final words echoed in our minds: Conviction overturned. All charges dismissed.
People cheered. Strangers held up signs that said WELCOME HOME and WE BELIEVED YOU. But the only thing that mattered was the three of us standing together, breathing the same air, knowing no one could ever tear us apart again.
