Chapter 5: The Reveal

Arthur picked up the documents with shaking hands. His face went from red to white as he flipped through the pages.
“This… this can’t be real.”
“It is,” I said calmly. “I’ve owned the majority stake in your family’s entire business for over a year. I just never used it. Until now.”
Margaret stood up so fast she knocked over her teacup.
“You lying little bitch—”
“Careful,” I interrupted. “That’s no way to speak to the woman who now controls whether your family keeps a single roof over their heads.”
Richard finally spoke, his voice hoarse.
“Why? Why would you do this?”
I looked at all of them.
“Because three years ago, your family destroyed mine. You drove my father into the ground. You took everything from him. And then you smiled while doing it.”
I turned to Arthur.
“And you… you married me thinking I was some naive woman you could slap into obedience. You have no idea how long I’ve been waiting for this moment.”
Arthur’s hands were shaking so badly the papers were rustling.
“Elena… please. We can talk about this. We can fix this.”

I looked at the man I had married less than forty-eight hours ago.
“There is nothing left to fix,” I said. “You broke it the moment you raised your hand to me.”
