Chapter 4: The Family Meeting

By lunchtime, the entire Lang family had gathered in the formal living room.
Arthur stood by the fireplace, trying to look in control. Margaret sat on the sofa like a queen holding court. Clara lounged in an armchair, still looking smug. Richard stood by the window, avoiding eye contact with everyone.
I walked in calmly and sat in the single chair facing all of them.
Margaret spoke first.
“Elena, dear, what happened this morning was unfortunate. But you must understand — in this family, we have certain expectations. You cannot simply order people around, especially not on your second day here.”
I looked at her without blinking.
“I asked Clara to wash the plate she used. That’s all.”
Clara rolled her eyes.
“God, you’re so dramatic. It’s just dishes.”
Arthur stepped forward.
“Mother is right. You embarrassed us in front of the staff. You need to apologize.”
I stood up slowly.
“No,” I said. “I don’t.”
I reached into my bag and pulled out a thick folder. I placed it on the coffee table between us.
“These are the ownership documents for every hotel your family currently operates. Every property. Every major share in your so-called empire. All of it is controlled by one holding company.”
I looked directly at Arthur.

“A company I own.”
The silence that followed was absolute.
