Chapter 15 - Where Light Resides

A year later.
Sunlight sparkled across the calm waters of a deep blue lake in rural Maine.
A cozy, rustic wooden house sat surrounded by towering pine trees and wild blueberry bushes.
Noah ran across the green lawn, his laughter ringing out clear and bright through the crisp autumn air. He wore his favorite blue jacket, and his color was vibrant and healthy.
He stopped near a wooden picnic table where Maya sat sketching in a notebook.
Noah reached into his coat pocket and pulled out a small, flat silver spoon he had found in the kitchen.
He walked over to the wooden porch railing and tapped the metal bracket attached to the timber.
Three quick knocks.
Two slow ones.
Three quick knocks again.
Maya looked up from her notebook, a warm, radiant smile spreading across her face.
Jonathan walked out from the cabin kitchen, carrying three steaming mugs of hot chocolate, laughing as he watched his son.
"Is that the call for dessert?" Jonathan asked, setting the mugs down on the table.
"It's the call that says we're home," Noah declared proudly, jumping into Maya's lap and wrapping his arms around her neck.
Maya held the little boy tight, feeling the steady, healthy rhythm of his heart beating against her chest.

The dark walls of the Greenwich estate were far behind them, demolished and forgotten.
In their place remained only the quiet, enduring light of a promise kept, a mother's foresight honored, and a family restored through love.
