Chapter 10 - The Shattered Glass

Celeste’s eyes narrowed into dark, vicious slits as her composure finally shattered.
"You spineless fool," she hissed at Jonathan. "You think you can run this estate without my family's money? Without my foundation connections?"
"I don't care about the money," Jonathan said, his voice trembling with raw, unfiltered emotion. "Where is my son's real medical record?"
Suddenly, sirens began wailing in the distance, growing louder as emergency vehicles pulled into the gated estate driveway.
Red and blue lights flashed through the high arched windows of the west wing corridor, cutting through the dim sconces.
Celeste’s face paled. She looked at Maya’s apron pocket, noticing the faint glow of the active phone screen beneath the dark fabric.
"You called the police," Celeste whispered, horror rising in her voice.
"Ten minutes ago," Maya said coldly. "And the dispatcher heard every single word you just said."
Celeste panicked. She turned to the security guards. "Lock the doors! Clear the ballroom! Now!"
The security guards hesitated, looking at Jonathan, then at the sound of police tires screeching to a halt outside the main entrance.
They didn't move. They knew when a ship was sinking.
Within seconds, heavy footsteps echoed through the main hall. Four armed Greenwich police officers, accompanied by paramedics carrying a stretcher, rounded the corner of the west wing.
"Police! Nobody move!" the lead officer shouted, his flashlight beam sweeping across the shattered glass and the group standing in the hallway.

Jonathan immediately stepped beside Maya, using his body to shield his son and the maid.
"Officer," Jonathan said, his voice cracking with emotion. "My wife locked my son inside that wall. She's been poisoning him."
