Chapter 10 - Justice and a New Dawn

By 9:00 AM, federal tactical teams, acting under an emergency presidential warrant, had surrounded Dante Althaus’s sprawling private villa on the outskirts of Lake Como.

I rode in the lead federal SUV alongside Matteo Rossi and a squad of heavily armed tactical officers.

As our convoy tore through the iron gates of Dante’s estate, scattering his private security guards before they could even draw their weapons, the front doors of the villa swung open.

Dante Althaus stepped out onto the marble portico, wearing an expensive cashmere sweater, holding a cup of espresso. He looked entirely calm—until he saw me step out of the lead vehicle.

"Elena," Dante sneered, setting his espresso cup down on a stone railing. "I told you, you were playing in an ocean of sharks."

"You're right, Dante," I said, walking forward while Matteo Rossi and the tactical team fanned out behind me, weapons raised. "I'm not a shark. I'm the storm."

Matteo stepped forward, flashing a federal arrest warrant. "Dante Althaus, you are under arrest for international racketeering, money laundering, human trafficking, and the assassination of Marco Moretti."

Dante’s calm facade finally shattered. He lunged toward his pocket, reaching for a concealed firearm—but three tactical officers swarmed him in a fraction of a second, tackling him hard onto the marble floor and slamming the steel cuffs onto his wrists.

"You can't do this!" Dante screamed, his face pressed against the stone as they dragged him to his feet. "I own half the politicians in Rome!"

"Not anymore," I said, looking down at him with absolute, unyielding power.

As they shoved Dante into the back of a black armored transport van, the morning sun finally broke through the heavy Tuscan clouds, washing the landscape in a brilliant, golden light.

Two weeks later, I stood alone in the private family cemetery on the grounds of the Moretti estate. The wind rustled gently through the cypress trees.

I knelt down beside Marco’s polished marble headstone, placing a fresh bouquet of white roses across the granite.

The corporate empire was safe. The corrupt family members who tried to destroy us were locked away in federal maximum-security prisons. The international syndicate had been dismantled down to its last root.

I traced my fingers across Marco’s engraved name, a quiet, peaceful smile touching my lips.

"We won, my love," I whispered softly into the breeze. "The empire is ours. And you can finally rest in peace."

I stood up, adjusted my coat, and turned toward the grand estate. The grief would always be a part of me, but the fear was gone. I was Elena Moretti. And no one would ever conquer me again.
