Chapter 6 - The Fall of the ConspiratorsBefore Matthew could utter a defense, the heavy double doors of the boardroom swung open. Federal agents walked in, holding an arrest warrant for Charlotte and Victor Vance on charges of corporate fraud, identity manipulation, and financial conspiracy.
Charlotte, who had been waiting outside the boardroom to hear the news of her victory, shrieked in absolute fury as federal officers placed steel handcuffs on her wrists. She was hauled away in total disgrace, her expensive designer clothes doing nothing to shield her from public exposure. Victor Vance was similarly cornered in his downtown office, his assets instantly frozen by federal regulators.
Matthew stood frozen in the center of the boardroom, his empire crumbling around him, realization hitting him like a physical blow. He looked at Clara, his eyes filled with profound, agonizing regret.
