Chapter 5 - Rebuilding the FoundationThe weeks following Eleanor’s arrest were a whirlwind of media scandals, corporate investigations, and legal battles. Eleanor’s defense team tried every trick in the book, claiming entrapment and mental instability, but Chloe’s uncorrupted digital backup, combined with forensic traces found in the old study, formed an airtight case.

Inside the Vance mansion, a deep cleansing took place. Richard fired the old administrative staff who had been loyal to Eleanor's tyranny and promoted Maria to head of household operations and personal guardian to Chloe.

One afternoon, sunlight poured brightly through the tall arched windows of the nursery—the same room where the nightmare had begun. The room had been entirely redecorated, stripped of the heavy, suffocating draperies and replaced with bright pastel colors, cheerful wall art, and shelves overflowing with children's books.

Chloe sat at a small wooden table, coloring a picture of a family of three.

Maria walked in carrying a fresh tray of snacks, smiling warmly. "How is the masterpiece coming along, artist?"

Chloe looked up, beaming with a smile that hadn't graced her face in over a year. "It's us, Maria! Me, Daddy, and an angel looking down from the sky."

Richard stood in the doorway, watching them. A genuine, gentle smile touched his lips. For the first time in years, the house felt like a home rather than a gilded cage. He walked in, crouched down beside his daughter, and kissed her cheek.

"How about we all go to the park this afternoon? Just the three of us," Richard suggested.

Chloe dropped her crayons and cheered, throwing her arms around both her father and Maria in a joyful group hug.
