Chapter 1 - The Echo of Truth in the Grand HallThe heavy silence in the mahogany-paneled nursery was thick enough to choke on. The small plastic cup rolled across the polished dark wood floor, coming to a rest near the heavy velvet drapes. It was the tiny plastic cup the nanny, Maria, had dropped in sheer panic when the chaos erupted.

Eleanor, dressed in her immaculate red silk dress that matched her ruthless ambition, scrambled backward on the floor. Her red-soled stiletto heels clicked awkwardly against the timber as she pointed a trembling, manicured finger at Maria.
"She attacked me! And the baby, Caesar!" Eleanor shrieked, her voice cracking with a desperate theatricality designed to manipulate every eye in the room.
Massive security guards had swarmed the room the second the commotion began. At their head stood Richard—powerful, commanding, and utterly blind to the monster sleeping in his bed. But right beside the guards stood a little girl with tear-streaked cheeks and blazing blue eyes. Little Chloe.
"Stop hurting her! She's my mom!" Chloe screamed, lunging forward to wrap her small arms around Maria, who was being held firmly by two burly guards.
"Stop hurting her, Chloe! Your mother is me!" Eleanor yelled, scrambling to her feet, her face contorted in vicious fury.
Chloe turned around, her small frame shaking with a grief and rage far beyond her years. The tears streamed freely down her face as she looked straight into Eleanor's eyes.

"No," Chloe whispered, her voice cutting through the heavy air like a glass shard. "You killed my mother. And I can prove it."
Richard froze. The color drained entirely from his face. He stared down at his daughter, then across at his glamorous wife, whose breath hitched.
