Chapter 4 - The Fall of the EmpressThe flashing red and blue lights of police cruisers painted the grand white pillars of the Vance estate in eerie hues. Handcuffs clicked sharply around Eleanor’s wrists as she was dragged out through the double doors, screaming curses and empty threats about ruining everyone involved.

As the police cars sped away into the stormy night, a profound, heavy silence settled over the mansion. Richard stood alone in the center foyer, looking remarkably older than he had an hour ago. The empire he had built felt hollow, built on a foundation of deception and blood.
He turned around to find Maria and Chloe standing near the staircase. Chloe was still clutching the hem of Maria’s uniform.
"Daddy," Chloe said softly.
Richard dropped to his knees on the marble floor, opening his arms wide. Chloe hesitated for a fraction of a second, then ran into his embrace, burying her face in his shoulder. Richard wept—not just for the wife he lost, but for the blind stupidity that had allowed a monster into their lives, endangering the only thing that truly mattered.
"I'm sorry, baby. I'm so, so sorry," Richard choked out, kissing the top of Chloe's head.

He then looked up at Maria, whose eyes were filled with quiet dignity and genuine compassion. "Maria... you risked your life today to protect my daughter. You knew, didn't you?"
"I didn't know everything, Mr. Vance," Maria replied respectfully, holding the baby bottle that had started it all. "I just knew that little Chloe was terrified, and no child should ever have to live in fear in her own home."
