CHAPTER 17: THE LESSONS OF THE PAIN

Later that night, while Lily was reading in the living room, I sat at the small writing desk by the bedroom window and opened my journal.

I wrote down the words I had carried in my heart through the darkest months of our struggle:

A child does not ask her father to be flawless. She does not ask him to prevent every storm or shield her from every cruel person who enters their lives.

She only asks that when the storm comes, he does not ask her to pretend it is sunshine.

Victoria tried to replace my daughter’s memories. She tried to make Lily believe that her pain was an inconvenience, her tears were a manipulation, and her existence was secondary to another woman’s comfort.

She failed because truth does not yield to volume. In the end, Victoria lost the family she tried to dominate, while Lily gained the strength to build a life on her own terms.

The woman who tried to destroy my daughter became the reason I learned never to ignore her pain again.

I closed the journal, capped my pen, and walked out to the living room.
