Chapter 3: The Masks Fell Off

Chapter 3: The Masks Fell Off
The twelve minutes felt like twelve years.
No one dared to speak.
Then one woman broke.
"I didn't see anything!"
Another man immediately pointed across the room.
"She's lying!"
"She watched him hit her!"
Another voice joined in.
"So did you!"
Soon the ballroom exploded into chaos.
Friends accused friends.
Business partners blamed each other.
Politicians denied knowing Damian.
Celebrities quietly deleted photos from their phones.
One by one...
The masks began to fall.
I stood silently while they destroyed themselves.
Damian stepped closer, lowering his voice.
"What do you want?"
"My company?"
"My shares?"
"Money?"
I almost laughed.
"You still don't understand."
He stared at me.
"I don't want your fortune."
"I want your truth."
Before he could answer...
The ballroom doors opened.
Not to let people leave.
To let people enter.
Federal agents.
State investigators.
Financial crime officers.
Behind them walked my father.
The room instinctively parted for him.
Victor Ashford never raised his voice.
He didn't need to.
He stopped beside me and gently touched the bruise on my cheek.
"You okay?"
"I am now."
He nodded once.
Then he looked at Damian.
"So..."
"This is the man."
Damian suddenly smiled.
"You have nothing."
"No witness."
"No case."
"No proof."
My father looked almost disappointed.
"Play Recording 47."
The speakers came alive.
Damian's own voice echoed across the ballroom.
"No one will defend her."
"Everyone in this room depends on me."
"If she reports this, I'll destroy her."
Gasps filled the room.
Then another recording played.
Bribes.
Threats.
Blackmail.
Illegal deals.
Years of corruption...
Confessed in his own voice.
Damian stumbled backward.
"No..."
"No..."
"I never..."
The lead federal agent stepped forward.
"Damian Blackwood..."
May you like
"You're under arrest.
The handcuffs clicked shut.
The sound echoed like justice itself.
