Chapter 2: The Doors Were Never Meant to Open

Chapter 2: The Doors Were Never Meant to Open

Silence swallowed the ballroom.

The laughter that had filled the room only moments ago disappeared beneath the metallic groan of reinforced steel locking every exit.

People pounded against the doors.

Nothing moved.

"What is this?" one senator shouted.

"I have a flight in an hour!"

"My children are waiting for me!"

The security guards rushed toward the control room.

Their key cards failed.

Their override codes failed.

Every monitor inside the mansion suddenly switched to black.

Then a single message appeared.

ACCESS DENIED.

The man standing in front of me finally stopped pretending to be fearless.

His name was Damian Blackwood.

A billionaire investor.

A generous donor.

A media darling.

And one of the most dangerous men in the country.

He grabbed my arm.

"You've gone insane!"

I looked at his trembling hand.

"If you touch me again," I said quietly, "you're going to lose it."

He laughed nervously.

"You think you can threaten me?"

Before I could answer...

The ballroom lights dimmed.

Every screen mounted around the walls flickered to life.

A familiar face appeared.

Silver hair.

Calm eyes.

Perfectly tailored black suit.

My father.

Victor Ashford.

The founder of Ashford Global Security.

The man whose company designed security systems for government bunkers, military installations...

...and this mansion.

The guests gasped.

"No..."

"It can't be..."

"I thought he was retired."

My father looked directly into the camera.

"Good evening."

His voice echoed through the silent ballroom.

"To everyone inside this room..."

"I suggest you remain exactly where you are."

"No one leaves."

"No one interferes."

"No one destroys evidence."

Damian forced a laugh.

"You can't imprison hundreds of people!"

My father smiled.

"No."

"You imprisoned yourselves the moment you decided to protect a criminal."

The room fell silent.

He continued.

"Every camera in this building has been recording since this morning."

"Every microphone has been active."

"Every conversation has been archived."

"And every file has already been copied to multiple federal agencies."

Damian's face drained of color.

"Impossible..."

"It already happened."

My father looked at me.

"You have control."

"I'll arrive in twelve minutes."

May you like

The screens went darkFor the first time in his life...

Damian looked genuinely terrified.
