PART 5: Unraveling the Corporate Trap
Legal deadlines turn wedding dates into execution days.
The study fell into a profound, suffocating silence.
The ticking of the grandfather clock in the corner sounded like a bomb counting down in the quiet room.
"Fourteen days," Nathan murmured, his eyes fixed on the date printed at the top of the prenuptial merger agreement. "The wedding is in fourteen days. Once the ceremony is legally registered, the transfer clause becomes permanent and unchallengeable."
"She didn't just want to marry you, Mr. Cole," I said, leaning over his desk. "She wanted to incapacitate you legally before you ever realized what was happening. If you had drunk that wine tonight—with the concentration she was building up in your system—the doctors would have diagnosed early-onset neurological collapse within the week."
Nathan clenched his fists so hard his knuckles turned white.
The billionaire tech mogul—a man who could outsmart any corporate rival in the market—had been systematically blindfolded, drugged, and led to the slaughter by a woman who baked him pastries with a smile.
"What do we do?" Nathan asked, looking up at me with raw, desperate vulnerability in his dark eyes. "If I confront her now, she’ll destroy the evidence, claim I’m losing my mind, and her family's lawyers will lock me in a psychiatric facility under the emergency wellness act."
"We don't confront her," I replied, a fierce, determined resolve settling over my chest. "We play her game right back."
"How?"
"We take that vial to an independent forensic toxicology lab tonight," I instructed, tapping the brown glass bottle. "Not the hospital connected to her family. An independent federal contractor. We get an unassailable chain-of-custody report by tomorrow morning."
Nathan looked at me, a slow, razor-sharp smile cutting across his pale features—the terrifying brilliance of the tech titan finally reawakening behind his eyes.
"And while we wait for the lab results," Nathan added, picking up his secure encrypted phone, "I’m going to have my private security detail pull every security camera log from the pantry over the last six months."
The countdown had begun.
