Chapter 2: The Will of the Wicked

The grand hall was a cathedral of greed. Julian’s younger brother, Marcus, paced the marble floor, his eyes darting toward the grandfather clock every few seconds. He was jittery, his hands stained with the metaphorical blood of a coup he hadn't yet finalized. "Is it done?" he hissed as Beatrice returned, wiping her hands on a silk handkerchief.

"It is being handled," she replied, pouring herself a drink. "Once she is in the ground, the estate defaults to the primary beneficiary in the event of an heir's absence. With Julian’s corporate collapse pending, he will have no legal standing to challenge us."

They spoke with the arrogance of the elite, convinced that their wealth was a bulletproof vest against morality. They had calculated every angle—the offshore accounts, the forged medical records, the "accidental" drowning plot they had devised for the evening. But they were playing a game of chess against a grandmaster who had already cleared the board. Julian stood in the shadows of his private study three floors up, staring at a bank of monitors. His expression was not one of grief, but of a lethal, razor-sharp focus. He held a small, black remote in his palm. His thumb hovered over the button. He had spent the last three years documenting their corruption, their embezzlement, and their clandestine meetings with rivals. This morning, he had sat with his legal team and drafted a final, ironclad will. It didn't just disinherit them; it served as a trapdoor. He watched the screen as his mother laughed—a high, brittle sound. "Too bad I rewrote the will this morning," he whispered to the empty room, his voice devoid of emotion. The trap was set.
