Chapter 4

Chapter 4

Richard took the stairs two at a time.
The triplets' words echoed in his head.
Victoria has a secret room.
Behind him, security guards raced through the mansion. Radios crackled. Doors slammed open. Staff members stepped aside in confusion as the entire east wing descended into chaos.
Emily followed more slowly.
Not because she was afraid.
Because she already knew this wasn't about a Rolex anymore.
The moment children become frightened enough to hide secrets, the truth is usually much darker than anyone wants to imagine.
"Seal every exit!" Richard barked.
"Yes, sir!"
The head of security pointed toward the far hallway.
"Movement detected near the nursery."
Richard's blood froze.
The nursery.
The room that had belonged to the boys since birth.
The room Emily had decorated.
The room Victoria had repeatedly tried to renovate.
Suddenly every argument came rushing back.
Every complaint.
Every demand.
Every strange obsession.
Victoria had always wanted control of that part of the house.
Why?
They found her standing at the end of the hallway.
A large painting lay shattered on the floor.
Victoria's perfect appearance was gone.
Her hair was disheveled.
Her makeup streaked.
Her eyes wild.
And behind her—
A section of wall stood partially open.
Everyone stopped.
Even the guards.
Because it wasn't a closet.
It wasn't storage.
It was a hidden room.
"No one comes in here!" Victoria screamed.
The reaction alone told Richard everything.
People don't panic like that over harmless secrets.
The head of security stepped forward.
"Ma'am, move away from the entrance."
Victoria shook her head violently.
"No."
Two guards approached.
She backed up.
Further into the room.
Protecting it.
Defending it.
Like a cornered animal.
Richard stared at the hidden doorway.
His heartbeat thundered.
"What is in there?"
Victoria laughed.
A strange, broken laugh.
"You wouldn't understand."
"Try me."
For a moment, her expression became hateful.
Pure hatred.
Not for Emily.
Not for the children.
For Richard.
"You ruined everything."
The billionaire frowned.
"What are you talking about?"
"You were supposed to marry me."
The room fell silent.
"You were supposed to trust me."
Security exchanged uneasy glances.
Victoria pointed toward Emily.
"But then she kept getting in the way."
Emily froze.
Richard slowly turned toward her.
Then back to Victoria.
"What does Emily have to do with this?"
Victoria's smile became ugly.
Because she had finally stopped pretending.
"Everything."
The guards entered first.
Flashlights illuminated the hidden room.
Then one of them swore.
A second guard whispered:
"Oh my God."
Richard pushed past them.
And stopped cold.
The room looked like an investigation center.
Walls covered in photographs.
Documents.
Schedules.
Notes.
Hundreds of pages.
Thousands.
Everything organized with obsessive precision.
Richard stared.
Then felt his stomach drop.
Because the photographs weren't random.
They were all of Emily.
Emily arriving at work.
Emily shopping.
Emily taking the boys to school.
Emily sitting on a park bench.
Emily visiting her mother's grave.
Emily leaving restaurants.
Emily entering grocery stores.
Emily living her life.
For three years.
Someone had been watching her.
Documenting her.
Tracking her.
Studying her.
"Richard..."
Emily's voice sounded distant.
Shocked.
Terrified.
She stepped closer.
A photograph near the center wall caught her attention.
Her hand flew to her mouth.
The picture showed her apartment.
Taken through a window.
At night.
While she slept.
The date was from eight months earlier.
The room went silent.
Even the security guards looked disturbed.
Richard slowly turned.
"What is this?"
Victoria said nothing.
The answer was written on every wall.
Obsession.
Control.
Fixation.
Then the head of security found something worse.
Much worse.
A filing cabinet.
Locked.
He forced it open.
Inside were dozens of folders.
Each carefully labeled.
The first read:
EMILY CARTER – REMOVAL STRATEGY
Nobody breathed.
The second:
BOARDING SCHOOL OPTIONS
The third:
CUSTODY TRANSITION PLAN
Richard grabbed the folders.
His hands shaking.
He opened the first.
Page after page of plans.
Ways to remove Emily from the children's lives.
False complaints.
Anonymous accusations.
Reputation attacks.
Financial pressure.
Employment termination.
Every possibility carefully analyzed.
Every weakness cataloged.
Every move calculated.
Like a military operation.
The second folder was worse.
The boarding school folder contained applications.
Contracts.
Transportation arrangements.
International institutions.
Several in countries thousands of miles away.
Richard stared.
The dates had already been selected.
The triplets were supposed to disappear.
Quietly.
Permanently.
The moment Victoria married him.
"She wanted us gone."
The small voice came from behind him.
Everyone turned.
The triplets stood in the doorway.
No one had noticed them arrive.
Noah looked at the folders.
Then lowered his eyes.
"We heard her talking."
Liam nodded.
"She said Daddy would love her more."
The room became silent.
Because children don't invent pain like that.
And suddenly everything made sense.
Every nightmare.
Every tantrum.
Every moment of fear.
The boys had known.
Long before the adults.
Richard felt physically sick.
Not because of Victoria.
Because of himself.
How many warnings had he ignored?
How many signs?
How many chances had he missed?
His sons had been afraid inside their own home.
And he hadn't seen it.
Emily had tried to tell him.
And he had fired her.
Then one of the guards discovered another folder.
Unlike the others, it wasn't labeled.
The guard opened it.
His face changed immediately.
"Sir."
Richard looked up.
The man handed him the contents.
Medical records.
Private medical records.
Richard frowned.
Then froze.
The records belonged to Victoria.
Years of treatment.
Psychological evaluations.
Court documents.
Restraining orders.
The room grew very quiet.
Because every page revealed something Victoria had hidden.
Something she had lied about.
Something no one in Richard's world knew.
Victoria suddenly lunged.
"Give that back!"
Guards grabbed her.
She screamed.
Kicked.
Fought.
But it was too late.
The documents were already in Richard's hands.
And the truth was beginning to emerge.
Not a simple lie.
Not a stolen watch.
Not even manipulation.
Something much bigger.
Something connected to another family.
Another city.
Another life Victoria had abandoned years ago.
Then Richard reached the final page.
And his face went completely white.
The room waited.
Nobody spoke.
Nobody moved.
Finally Emily whispered:
"What is it?"
Richard looked up slowly.
His voice barely worked.
"Victoria was married before."
The room froze.
Victoria stopped struggling.
For the first time all day, genuine fear appeared in her eyes.
Richard continued reading.
His hands trembling.
"She had a child."
Silence.
A terrible silence.
The triplets stared.
Emily looked shocked.
The guards exchanged glances.
Because Victoria had always claimed she had never been married.
Never had children.
Never built a life before Richard.
Everything had been a lie.
But Richard wasn't finished reading.
His eyes moved lower.
Further down the page.
Then his expression changed from shock...
...to horror.
Absolute horror.
Because the child wasn't simply missing from Victoria's story.
The child was missing.
Period.
No contact.
No custody.
No records for years.
And according to the final court document—
The child's disappearance had triggered an investigation that was never fully resolved.
Richard slowly looked up.
Then toward Victoria.
Who had stopped fighting entirely.
Stopped speaking.
Stopped breathing.
Because she knew exactly what he had just discovered.
May you like
And judging by the terror on her face—
The truth about that missing child was about to destroy far more than her engagement.
