Chapter 4 - A New Dawn in the Mansion

The afternoon sun filtered through the massive arched windows of the Villaseñor mansion, casting warm golden beams across the polished marble floors. The tension that had choked the estate for hours had finally dissipated, replaced by a quiet, uncertain calm.

In the massive industrial kitchen, Marisol sat at the wooden preparation table, her hands trembling as she poured hot water into a ceramic mug. Her faded apron was gone, replaced by a simple, clean blouse she had kept in her small locker downstairs.

Footsteps echoed softly on the tile floor.

Diego walked into the kitchen, carrying Valentina on his shoulders. The little girl was giggling, holding onto his dark hair like it was the reins of a horse.

"She likes it up here," Diego said, a faint, genuine smile touching the corners of his lips—a smile Marisol hadn't seen in the four years she had worked in the house.

Marisol looked up, her heart still hammering against her ribs. "Mr. Villaseñor... Diego... you didn't have to ruin everything with the Robles family just for us. They have immense power. They can still cause you trouble."

Diego gently lifted Valentina down from his shoulders, setting her gently onto a stool before pulling out the chair opposite Marisol and sitting down. He placed his large hands flat on the wooden table, looking directly into her eyes.

"The Robles family’s power died the second they crossed paths with my daughter," Diego said firmly. "And as for my company—I built Villaseñor Group from the ground up, Marisol. I didn't build it by selling my soul to corrupt politicians; I built it through hard work. If I have to rebuild half my portfolio from scratch to protect you and Valentina, I'll do it twice."

Marisol lowered her gaze, biting her lower lip. "I was so scared, Diego. When I found out I was pregnant, you were always on television, in the newspapers, surrounded by bodyguards and high-society women. I went to your office twice, but security wouldn't even let me past the lobby. I thought... I thought you had forgotten me completely."

Diego reached across the table, his fingers gently closing over her trembling hand. His touch was warm and steady.

"I never forgot you, Marisol," he whispered. "Even when I couldn't remember your face, a part of me always felt like something was missing. Every time I walked past this kitchen and saw a glimpse of little Valentina playing on that pink blanket, my chest ached. I just... I was too blind, too consumed by my own ambition to look closer."

Valentina, sensing the emotional weight in the room, slid off her stool, toddled over to Diego, and tugged gently on his suit jacket.

Diego looked down, surprised.

The little girl held out her old, battered stuffed rabbit, offering it to him as a peace offering.

May you like

Diego's eyes welled with sudden, hot tears. He gently took the rabbit with both hands, as if it were the most precious artifact in the world, and set it carefully on the table. Then he scooped Valentina up into his arms, burying his face gently against her small shoulder.

"I'm your daddy now, sweetheart," he whispered against her hair. "And I'm never letting you go."
