Chapter 3: The Vanguard Retribution

The grand dining room felt as though it had been struck by a physical earthquake, the illusion of the Sterling family's untouchable status vaporizing in a single microsecond. Eleanor Vanguard knelt down on the white marble floor, completely ignoring the stains or her plain uniform, her powerful hands reaching out with absolute, trembling tenderness to gather Elena into her arms.
"Elena... my sweet girl," Eleanor whispered, her voice cracking with a deep, protective maternal rage as she pulled her daughter against her chest. "I am so sorry. I am so sorry I let you play this game. You wanted to find genuine love, but you walked into a den of diseased vipers."
"Mom..." Elena sobbed, her body shaking hysterically as she buried her bruised face into her mother's shoulder. "She hit me, Mom... she hit our baby..."
Hearing those words, Eleanor Vanguard stood up to her full height. The transformation was complete. She no longer looked like a housemaid; she stood like an absolute empress of the global economy, her silver hair catching the light, her eyes flashing with a lethal, predatory intensity that made Victoria Sterling step back so fast her high heels caught on the edge of her gown.
"You... you are her mother?" Victoria whispered, her face completely drained of all color, her hands flying to her mouth as her mind spun into a chaotic vortex of sheer terror. "But... the records said she was an orphan! She lived in a double-wide trailer! She had nothing!"
"My daughter stripped herself of her inheritance because she wanted to find a human being who loved her for her heart, not her trillions," Eleanor said, her words cutting through the freezing air like a clinical scalpel. "She altered her legal documents to protect her privacy. And you, Victoria... you saw a gentle, sweet girl with no army behind her, and you thought you could torture her for your own sick amusement."
Julian scrambled up from his chair, his face a hollow mask of sycophantic terror as he rushed toward Eleanor, his hands extended in a desperate plea. "Mrs. Vanguard, please! You have to understand! I love Elena! I didn't know! My mother... she controls all our accounts! I wanted to stop her, I swear I did!"
"Silence, you pathetic, spineless coward," Eleanor hissed, not even granting him a glance. "You stood by and watched a monster strike your pregnant wife while your sister recorded it for entertainment. You are not a man; you are a parasite clinging to your mother's decaying lace."
Eleanor pulled her encrypted smartphone from her hidden apron pocket and pressed a single speed-dial button.
"Marcus," Eleanor spoke into the device, her voice completely deadpan, carrying a chilling authority. "Initiate the total, aggressive liquidation of all Sterling entities globally. Now."
On the other end of the line, the Vanguard Group’s Chief Legal Officer responded instantly. "The short-positions have already been established, ma'am. The foreclosure notices are prepared."
"Execute them," Eleanor commanded, cutting the call off. She turned her eyes back to Victoria, a cold, mocking smile touching her lips. "You thought your little real estate empire made you a queen, Victoria? You forgot that eighty percent of your commercial properties are built on land leased directly from the Vanguard Holding Group. Your primary construction lines of credit are held by our subsidiary banks. By the time the stock market opens at nine o'clock tomorrow morning, every single line of credit your family operates on will be permanently revoked. Your corporate bonds will be declared junk status, and the foreclosure teams will seize this very manor before noon."
"No... no, you can't do this!" Victoria shrieked, her voice rising into a high-pitched, hysterical scream as she clutched her pearls, her pristine world collapsing around her. "It’s a marital dispute! It’s a private family matter! You can't destroy a billion-dollar company over a slap!"
"Watch me," Eleanor whispered.
Right at that exact second, the grand double oak front doors of the manor were violently pushed open, and a contingent of six federal agents from the white-collar crime division, accompanied by three local police detectives and an armed security detail, marched purposefully into the dining room.

"Victoria Sterling," the lead detective announced, pulling a pair of heavy steel handcuffs from his belt, his eyes assessing the blood on Elena’s face. "We received an emergency domestic violence transmission and the live audio feed from Mrs. Vanguard’s secure device. You are under arrest for aggravated domestic assault against a pregnant woman, corporate extortion, and endangerment. Hands behind your back. Now."
Victoria shrieked and struggled as the officers grabbed her arms, violently twisting them behind her back, the cold metal handcuffs clicking loudly over her expensive emerald lace sleeves. She was dragged down the marble corridor, her high-society status permanently vaporized, her desperate screams echoing through the silent mansion as the rest of her family watched in paralyzed, ruined silence.
