He set his sister down on a soft velvet sofa, wiping the dirt and tears from her cheeks with a clean handkerchief. "What's your name, sweetie?" he asked softly, his voice full of warmth.
"Mia," the little girl whispered, clutching the royal pearl tightly in her tiny hand.
"Mia," Julian repeated with a reassuring smile. "You are safe now. No one will ever hurt you again. I promise you that."
Mia looked up, a glimmer of hope returning to her eyes. "Did you really mean it? Are you my big brother?"

"I am," Julian said, his eyes misting over with emotion as he pulled her into a tender, protective embrace. "And I'm going to make sure we find out everything that happened to Mom."
Using his administrator clearance, Julian opened the encrypted family archive on the desktop computer. Files, medical logs, and hidden financial transfers from the past five years popped up on the screen, revealing a dark paper trail of forgery, coercion, and slow-acting poison administered to their late mother.
