Chapter 6 - A Father’s Wrath

Back at the Blackwell estate, the grand foyer was a graveyard of broken marble and shattered glass. Two of Vance’s mercenaries lay motionless on the floor. Holden stood behind the ruins of a heavy oak table, his suit jacket torn, blood dripping from a shallow cut on his temple.

Arthur Vance was gone, having retreated into his limousine the moment the shooting started. But he had left his top enforcer, a ruthless killer named Viktor, to finish the job.

“Give it up, Blackwell!” Viktor shouted from behind a pillar, his automatic weapon ready. “You’re outnumbered! Vance already has your daughter’s location! The safe house in Cicero is being breached as we speak!”

Holden’s eyes turned pitch black. The threat against Wren triggered something primal within him. He didn't just want to survive anymore; he wanted to destroy.

With a deafening roar, Holden stepped out from cover, firing his weapon with deadly, unerring accuracy. The first bullet caught Viktor’s secondary shooter directly in the chest. Before Viktor could pivot, Holden closed the distance with terrifying speed, tackling the massive enforcer to the ground.

The two men crashed into the debris. Viktor swung a heavy fist, catching Holden in the jaw, but Holden didn't even seem to feel it. He grabbed Viktor by the throat, slamming his head against the marble floor over and over again.

“Where is Arthur going?” Holden hissed, his fingers crushing Viktor’s windpipe. “Tell me, or I will ensure your death takes days.”

Viktor choked, his eyes bulging with genuine terror as he looked into the face of the true Boss of Chicago. “The… the northern shipping yards,” Viktor gasped out. “Vance went to… to clear the evidence. He’s going to kill her tonight and frame the Morettis.”

Holden didn't hesitate. He delivered a final, neutralizing blow to Viktor’s jaw, knocking him unconscious, and stood up. He wiped the blood from his brow, his mind entirely focused on one goal: Lake Michigan.

He ran out of the shattered front doors, ignoring the pouring rain, and jumped into his armored SUV. He fired up the engine, roaring down the driveway, dialing Marcus as he tore through the gates.

The phone rang out. Nothing but static.

“Hold on, Eleanor,” Holden muttered, slamming his foot on the accelerator, the engine roaring like a beast in the night. “Hold on, Wren. I’m coming.”
