Chapter 3: The Hidden Years

Nathan carried the children upstairs.

Each step felt heavier than the last.

How had he missed this?

Late meetings.

Endless travel.

Trust placed in the wrong person.

He gently laid them in the living room,

wrapping them in blankets.

“She says we’re mistakes.”

Nathan’s heart shattered.

“Why didn’t anyone tell me?”

he asked.

“The staff knows,” the boy said.
