Chapter 3: The Invisible Partner

For the first three years, I played the role perfectly.

I woke up before him to make coffee exactly how he liked it. I packed his lunch with handwritten notes. I hosted dinner parties for investors and smiled politely when they asked what I did.

“I support my husband,” I always answered.

Meanwhile, I was reading every contract, approving every major decision through Daniel, and quietly moving pieces on the board Victor thought he controlled.

When the company hit its first major crisis — a trucking strike that threatened to sink us — Victor panicked. I stayed up all night rewriting the negotiation strategy and slipped it under his door with a note: “Try this. It might work.”

He used my strategy word for word the next day and saved the company.

That night he came home, lifted me off my feet, and said, “I don’t know what I’d do without you.”

I buried my face in his neck so he wouldn’t see the tears.

Because even then, I knew one day he might try to do exactly that — live without me.
