Eleanor’s eyes widened in sheer disbelief, her voice trembling with furious outrage. "You call nearly drowning your own daughter a joke?!" She pointed a shaking finger at Richard and Elena, her breath coming in ragged gasps. "You call yourself a father? And you—stay away from my granddaughter!"
Suddenly, the red and blue flashing lights of police cruisers illuminated the shattered doorway from the outside. Several uniformed police officers pushed their way into the room, responding to an urgent emergency call Eleanor had placed moments earlier.

"Police! Arrest them both!" Eleanor commanded, holding little Chloe securely as the officers stepped forward.
Richard’s smug expression finally faltered for a fraction of a second. "Officer, this is a private family dispute—" "Family dispute? They locked a three-year-old child inside a flooding room for disciplinary amusement!" Eleanor shouted, tears of pure fury streaming down her face. "Do your job!"
