Chapter 7: Facing Accountability

A week later, Officer Piaimitten appeared before the internal review board. Facing suspension and mandatory retraining, he sat outside the hearing room, head in his hands. Marcus walked down the corridor, stopping in front of the officer. Piaimitten looked up, expecting anger or condescension. Instead, Marcus handed him a cup of coffee. "You lost your judgment in that garage, Piaimitten," Marcus said calmly. "When fear and suspicion replace duty, you endanger the community you swore to protect." Piaimitten took the cup, nodding silently in regret. "I was wrong, Director. I misjudged her."
