đŹ PART 2: «The Little Girl Stared At The Bride In Fear While The Groom Demanded To Know What Was Inside The Suspicious Locket

The little girl didnât answer.
Not at first.
She just stared at the bride like she was suddenly afraid of saying the wrong thing.
The groom moved closer.
âWhatâs inside?â
The bride snapped the locket shut.
Too fast.
Her hands were trembling now.
âNothing.â
The groom stared at her.
âThat didnât look like nothing.â
The flower girl wiped her face with both hands.
âShe told me youâd be angry.â
The brideâs breath caught.
âWho told you?â
The girl looked toward the hallway behind them.
The wedding guests had gone quiet.
âShe said not to tell anyone until you opened it.â
The bride took one slow step toward her.
âWhere did you see her?â
The girlâs eyes filled again.
âAt the bus station.â
The bride shook her head.
âNo.â
The groom touched her arm.
âWhat is happening?â
She pulled away from him.
âMy mother was buried eleven years ago.â
The little girl looked confused.
Then frightened.
âBut she knew your name.â
The bride froze.
The girl reached into the pocket of her flower dress.
âI have something else.â
Her tiny hand closed around an unseen object.
The bride whispered,
âWhat?â
The girl looked up at her.
âProof sheâs still alive.â
: «The Man Who Pulled Him Away in Time»

Nobody moved.
The van engine kept idling.
The mother pulled her son tighter against her body.
âWhat do you mean thatâs not our van?â she whispered.
The boyâs lips trembled.
âI thought it was yours.â
The strangerâs face changed.
âHow did you get near it?â
The boy swallowed hard.
âA man inside called my name.â
The mother stopped breathing.
The stranger looked at her.
âYou know someone in that van?â
She shook her head.
âNo.â
The metal handle moved again.
Slowly this time.
The boy buried his face against her side.
âHe said you sent him.â
The motherâs knees nearly gave way.
The stranger stepped between them and the van.
Only then did she notice blood on his scraped palm.
From pulling her son out of the road.
From pulling him away from that door.
Her voice broke.
âYou were saving him.â
The man didnât turn around.
âI was trying to.â
A soft knock came from inside the van.
Three taps.
The boy looked up, terrified.
Then he whispered the words that made his motherâs face lose all color.
âMom⊠thatâs the knock Dad used.â
She stared at him.
